Best Buy Closing 50 Stores in Attempt to ‘Think Small’ - edgertongrous1984

In an effort to stay emulous with Virago, the Malus pumila Depot, and other online retailers, Best Buy is slimming down.

The big box retailer proclaimed that IT leave be year-end 50 of its retail locations in the Conjugated States during the coming financial year. Lag, it plans to staring 100 smaller ambulant stores, with a concentrate on phones, tablets, and e-readers.

According to the Associated Press, Best Buy currently operates 1,450 stores in the Fused States, so 50 locations shutdown won't create a Brobdingnagian dent in the retailer's presence. Information technology is, all the same, an admission by Best Buy that it rear end't continue to mesh as it's been operating.

The moves were described as "major actions to improve our operating carrying into action" by Outflank Buy CEO Brian Dunn in a press release.

Best Buy ISN't fair-and-square closedown stores–it's also changing the manner that employees are disciplined and compensated. According to the Wall Street Diary, Best Buy plans to increase worker training by 40 per centum and declare oneself financial incentives to employees World Health Organization assemble "customer service and business goals."

What this means for customers isn't clear yet. Best Buy employees don't turn on military commission, and the company did not use that term in its handout to describe its new compensation plans. Nevertheless, Best Buy already offers incentives to employees in its mobile stores, and has reported an increase in phone sales. Hopefully the incentives in regular Best Buy stores testament really amount to better customer service (as opposed to more high-pressure upselling).

Members of Best Buy's Reward Zone Silver loyalty program will see a few tangible benefits. Best Buy says information technology will start offering free expedited shipping to these customers–a nod, perhaps, to Amazon Prime–a free Eccentric person Squad house call, a 60-day return windowpane and price match policy, and early access to some popular products. These commitment nine members account for "a significant percentage" of Best Buy's winnings.

I dubiety anyone's astounded by Best Buy's change of course. Brick-and-mortar stores now run the risk of being showrooms for online retailers, who often sell at low prices and without gross revenue taxes in many states. As wel, with Apple products along the rise, Best Buy is competing with the simple mindedness and convenience of the Apple Store. Focusing on fewer products and a Sir Thomas More knowledgeable staff is an easy way to compete along both fronts.

But as Forbes barreled out in a recent skewering of Best Steal, the store's affliction whitethorn be much more basic. Last year, Best Buy failed to ship some orders in time for Christmas because IT couldn't meet postulate, and only began notifying customers a couple days before the holiday.

It also seems like everyone has their own Best Buy horror story–whether it's a problem with pick up online orders in-store, ware returns gone wrong, or unwelcome, nagging sales pitches from clerks. Above all, Top Buy up needs to eliminate client headaches. Such a goal mightiness non Be sexy enough for a press issue, but hopefully it's ace that Best Buy isn't neglecting.
